The TATA sponsored Richard Burton 10K Road Race is one of the UK’s most prestigious road races which year after year attracts some of the top UK running club athletes.

The Cwmafan based Race, held in memory of the late great Richard Burton, has benefited over the last 4 years from sponsorship funding by TATA Steel of Port Talbot and this year celebrates its 29th anniversary with a fantastic prize pot totalling £1,700.

This year the 10K event will take place on Sunday 27th March and will also include a 1 Mile Fun Run.

The race was originally started to raise funds for families who had lost loved ones in a car crash; two years later Richard Burton gave his permission to use his name in the Race titles. Richard sadly died some 6months later, his widow Sally gave her permission to us his name and from then she became out President and sponsor over many years.

Last year in 2010, the 5K Race was replaced and substituted it for a 1mile fun run, aimed at youngsters from 7 onwards with proceeds going to cystic fibrosis. As main sponsors TATA steel funding will be used to provide commemorative T shirts, chip timing, prize money and other prizes for the 1mile fun run.

The events are supported by the local authority and many small businesses. We are delighted to again welcome TATA with their representative Keith FARRON as the main driving force, encouraging TATA steel employees to take part in this fantastic course
